Your insurance company may
insist you call a special 800# when you have an auto glass claim. In many
cases that 800# is the direct phone number for a network owned by a
national auto glass chain.
This network may "strongly suggest" or insist that you use one of
their locations - trying to steer you away from a locally owned
independent shop. The networks are not permitted to threaten you
with the need for inspection across town, slow payment of claim, or
even the possibility of higher prices (the insurance companies have
preset pricing they will pay for the work regardless of who does the
repairs).
These networks often use their own aftermarket brand of glass & use
only one technician to install a windshield.
